Part of the roof of a Vencedor Atacadista unit on Avenida Casa Grande, in Diadema (Grande SP), collapsed on Monday afternoon (15), leaving at least 15 people injured, according to the Fire Department.
Nine of them suffered minor injuries and two were more seriously injured, but none are at risk of dying. According to the Municipality of Diadema, in a statement, six people were rescued by Samu (Mobile Emergency Care Service) to the Dra Zilda Arns Municipal Hospital, in Piraporinha; two were also taken by Samu to the city’s Central Emergency Room and two others, by firefighters, to the University Hospital, in São Bernardo do Campo (SP).
The city hall also highlights that one person refused to be taken to the health service and four others traveled by their own means.
In a video published by a customer on social media, it is possible to see the fallen iron structure. Part of the roof remained in place, and Civil Defense was called to analyze the situation.
According to Captain Farina, from Civil Defense, supermarket employees had carried out maintenance on the roof in the morning. At around 4pm, heavy rain fell in the region, and the collapse occurred at around 4:20pm.
Authorities are still investigating whether the renovation and rain may have influenced the collapse.
The city hall also reported that the Vencedor Atacadista unit was up to date with all the necessary documentation from the municipal administration, as well as with the AVCB (Fire Department Inspection Report) in force until October 2024.
Seven Fire Department vehicles were sent to the scene. At around 7pm, Civil Defense reported that there were no more victims among the rubble. An investigation will be carried out at the scene to determine the causes of the incident.
The wholesale chain has 26 stores in the state of São Paulo.
