– I am of course disappointed and surprised by the verdict. I am appealing the sentence on the spot, Anders Besseberg said after he had answered “yes” to the question of whether he had understood the sentence.

The former top skier was sentenced on Friday to three years and one month in prison in Buskerud district court in Hokksund.

– I am surprised by the verdict, and we have to read it, but we strongly disagree with the result and reasoning, said the defender Mikkel Toft Gimse.

Gimse followed up by saying that Besseberg and the defenders are surprised that he was not believed at all and that the court exclusively chooses to believe what speaks against him and ignores what speaks against him.

– The way the court describes it, it seems as if Besseberg has been alone in these decisions, Gimse told the press after the verdict was handed down.

Økokrim won on nine out of ten points in the indictment. Besseberg was only acquitted of an exchange of watches and a single offer about prostitutes.

In the judgment, it was consistently established that Besseberg received benefits that were inappropriate (reprehensible) when he was president of the International Biathlon Union (IBU). The indictment dealt with matters in the years 2009 to 2018.

The prosecution’s sentence was three years and seven months’ unconditional imprisonment and a fine of NOK one million.
