Susan Wojcicki, former managing director of YouTube, is in deep mourning: her son Marco Troper has died. He was only 19 years old.
The Polish-American entrepreneur Susan Wojcicki, 55, and her husband Dennis Troper have to cope with a severe blow of fate. Their son Marco Troper died at the age of just 19. The shocking news is confirmed by both the university Marco attended and Susan’s mother Esther Wojcicki, 83.

As the “Huffington Post” reports, among others, the University of Berkeley in California announced that freshman Marco Troper was found unconscious on Tuesday afternoon, February 13, 2024. Firefighters initiated life-saving measures, but had to declare the student dead a short time later.
In a moving Facebook post, journalist Esther Wojcicki confirms the tragic death of her beloved grandson. “My family was hit by tragedy. My beloved grandson Marco Troper, 19 years old, died yesterday. Our family is incredibly shaken,” she writes about several photos of Marco and his family from happy times. “Marco was the kindest, most loving, smartest, funniest, and most beautiful person I know. He had just started the second semester of his freshman year at UC Berkeley as a mathematics major and truly loved it,” it continued. The son of the former Google marketing manager and YouTube boss built up a large circle of friends at the university, was in a student association and was “very successful academically”.

“Marco’s life was far too short”
Finally, the 83-year-old writes: “Marco’s life was far too short. We are all devastated when we think of all the opportunities and life experiences that he will miss and that we will miss together. Marco, we all love you and miss you more than you will ever know.”
The cause of death is not yet known. However, Esther Wojcicki tells “SFGate”: “He took a drug and we don’t know what was in it. […] We want to prevent something like this from happening to another family.” The family is now waiting for the results of the toxicology report. Marco Troper leaves behind his parents and four siblings.
