Former “Report” author and “Tagesthemen” presenter died in Baden-Baden at the age of 82

Hannelore Gadatsch, television journalist, presenter and long-time employee of Südwestrundfunk (SWR), is dead. She died on March 11, 2024 in Baden-Baden. Her family confirmed this.

Hannelore Gadatsch worked for what was then Südwestfunk (SWF) from 1966 and as an editorial member of “Report Baden-Baden” from 1977. She has received numerous awards for her films, including the German Social Prize twice. In the mid-1980s, Gadatsch moderated the “Tagesthemen”.

“Hannelore Gadatsch was one of the first women to moderate the ‘Tagesthemen’, a pioneer of television journalism. She has achieved a lot with her documentaries, including for the political magazine ‘Report’. Her death fills us with sadness and our thoughts are with those who were close to her.”

Biography:

Hannelore Gadatsch (née Rosentreter) was born in Berlin in 1941. From 1966 Gadatsch worked at Südwestfunk, and in 1977 in the “Report Baden-Baden” editorial team. Gadatsch was awarded the German Social Prize in 1978 for a “report” article about medical malpractice. In 1983 she received the Development Policy Media Prize for a “Report” on the drought disaster in Ethiopia, and in 1986 she received the same prize again for an article about forced resettlements in the country. In 1984 and 1985 Gadatsch moderated the “Tagesthemen” and from 1988 onwards he moderated special programs on Eins Plus.

In 1992, Hannelore Gadatsch became SWF representative for the newly founded broadcaster ARTE. She again received the German Social Prize in 1994 for her SWF documentary “What People Do to People – About the Treatment of Torture Victims in Berlin and Copenhagen”. Hannelore Gadatsch was a member of the advisory board of the treatment center for torture victims in Berlin. She most recently lived in retirement in Baden-Baden.
