Jerry Fletcher (Mel Gibson) works as a taxi driver operating in the New York City area. However, he is also a conspiracy theorist who often pitches his theories to passengers.

Alice Sutton (Julia Roberts), Fletcher’s taxi customer, is one of the people who hears this theory most often. Alice, who worked as a lawyer at the US Department of Justice, was repeatedly told by Jerry about his ideas and theories.
One day, Alice works to solve the mysterious murder case of her father. This case also sparked conspiracy theories for Jerry.
Until then, he saw suspicious activity from a number of people. Jerry also suspected that the person was working for the CIA and followed them into the building.

However, he was caught and interrogated by these people with torture. Luckily, Jerry managed to escape by knocking out the people who were interrogating him.
Unfortunately, the escape attempt did not go smoothly because Jerry was arrested again. He was then taken to hospital in handcuffs and forced to take sleeping pills.
Alice, who knew about Jerry’s condition, finally came to visit. Alice’s arrival opens up an opportunity for Jerry to escape again.
He asked for help so he could free himself from the handcuffs and escape. Alice agreed to the request, until they ran away together when they found out that Jerry was being hunted by the CIA and FBI.
A series of attacks from unknown people threatens Alice and Jerry’s safety. The two people then hid in Jerry’s apartment until things were safe.
There, Jerry tells Alice that he is also working on a conspiracy-themed newspaper. The conversation didn’t last long because SWAT personnel suddenly attacked Jerry’s apartment.
Alice, who is also caught up in this confusing threat, can’t help but follow Jerry’s plan to stay safe amidst various conspiracies.
Conspiracy Theory is directed by Richard Donner with a script by Brian Helgeland. Donner is known as the director of Superman (1978), Lethal Weapon (1987), Maverick (1994), and Timeline (2003).
A number of hit actors were involved in the film, such as Mel Gibson, Julia Roberts, and Patrick Stewart. Conspiracy Theory also stars Cylk Cozart, Steve Kahan, Terry Alexander, and Pete Koch.
When it hit theaters in 1997, the film generated box office earnings of US$137 million. That figure exceeds the film’s production costs of US$137 million.
