Taiwan, record of Chinese air raids: 77 fighters in two days

by admin

TAIPEI – Taiwan recorded a record number of Chinese fighter raids in its Air Defense Identification Zone (Adiz) for the second consecutive day. Island authorities reported that 39 Chinese military aircraft entered the area, adding to the previous day’s 38, for a total of 77 in 48 hours. These are the two most massive raids reported from Taipei.

“China is engaged in military aggression and harms regional peace,” Taiwanese premier said. Su Tseng-chang speaking to the press. “October 1 was not a good day. The Chinese Air Force flew 38 planes into Taiwan’s Adiz, the largest number ever recorded. Threatening? Of course. It’s strange that China doesn’t bother pretending anymore,” he said. wrote the Taiwanese Foreign Ministry on Twitter.

In response to the raids, the Taiwanese Air Force took off its bombers, issued radio alarms and deployed air defense missile systems, the ministry confirmed.

The raids did not violate Taiwan’s 12-nautical-mile airspace. The US Federal Aviation Administration defines an Adiz as “a designated area within which a country requires immediate identification.” To enter, airplanes must comply with particular procedures, developed not so much to facilitate air traffic control, but mainly for the benefit of air defense and national security.

On 24 September, the Ministry of Defense announced the detection of 24 military aircraft in the southwest corner of Adiz. Beijing considers the island as part of its territory despite Taipei proclaiming itself independent since the end of the Chinese civil war in 1949, and is committed to bringing the island under its control by any means necessary, including military takeover.
