(Fighting New Coronary Pneumonia) Thailand’s new confirmed cases in a single day hit a new high, intends to further tighten epidemic prevention

China News Agency, Bangkok, July 16 (Reporter Wang Guoan) Thai officials announced on the 16th that there were 9,692 new confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia in the past 24 hours, a record high in a single day.

As of that day, Thailand had a total of 381,907 confirmed cases and a total of 3,099 deaths.

The Deputy Spokesperson of Thailand’s New Crown Pneumonia Epidemic Management Center said that Thai Prime Minister Prayut presided over a meeting of the center on the same day to evaluate the situation in Thailand. The meeting concluded that the “quasi-closure” measures have been implemented for five days in the 10 most severely affected provinces including Bangkok, but the national epidemic situation has not improved. Therefore, the government intends to further tighten epidemic prevention measures and close more places. The relevant situation will be announced after detailed discussion and decision.

In addition, Prayut ordered the military, the National Police Service, the Ministry of Health, and the Bangkok City Government to organize more than one hundred medically trained fast-moving teams on the same day to conduct rapid screening for the new crown virus in Bangkok and surrounding areas.

Since the third wave of the outbreak in Thailand in early April, the number of confirmed cases has increased sharply, and there is a severe shortage of medical beds. Many patients have not been admitted to hospitals after being diagnosed. Due to the inability to accept more patients for hospitalization, some hospitals even stopped the new crown testing services.

In order to reduce the burden on hospitals, Thailand implements home isolation treatment measures for mild and asymptomatic patients. Hospitals (including shelter hospitals) mainly treat moderate and severe patients.

A report issued by the World Bank Representative Office in Thailand on July 15 said that due to the third wave of the epidemic and the weak tourism industry, Thailand’s economic growth this year is expected to be 2.2%, lower than the previous forecast of 3.4%. The report believes that the Thai economy is not expected to return to its pre-epidemic level until 2022, and the recovery process will be slow and uneven. (Finish)
