For two centuries the Trappist monks of Flanders, in Belgium north, produce a high-quality beer, considered a novelty not only in their country but also successfully exported to Holland, Great Britain, France and Italy. The crisis of vocations, with fewer and fewer young people willing to face the sacrifices of a monastic life, is however putting this niche well known to connoisseurs into crisis.
