Two people have died and three are missing in China after a barge collided with a bridge on the Pearl River Delta near Guangzhou, causing several vehicles to fall into the water. According to a reconstruction by the Maritime Safety Administration of the capital of Guandong, the barge crashed around 5.30 local time (10.30 pm in Italy) in the Hongqili canal. Four vehicles and an electric motorbike fell into the water: two people lost their lives and three are missing. Investigations into the causes of the accident have been launched. According to the Global Times tabloid, residents in the immediate vicinity of the accident site were evacuated, while the owner of the barge was arrested. Lixinsha Bridge is the main transportation route on Sanmin Island, although there is a ferry service available.
