Germany scares France

The German national team celebrates a triumphant victory against France, the international press celebrates the DFB team. The French, on the other hand, have to face severe criticism.

The brilliant 2-0 win against runner-up world champion France gave Germany a dream start to the European Championship year and was celebrated in the international press.

Les Bleus, on the other hand, come off poorly in the analysis. SPORT1 shows the press reviews of the duel between Germany and France.

France

L’Équipe: “The big slap in the face. Germany gave Les Bleus a lesson in Didier Deschamps’ 150th game as coach of the French national team. You didn’t see it coming, least of all on this scale and on this evening without lights.”

Le Figaro: “Les Bleus get a big slap in the face and are outclassed by Germany. Three months before the European Championships, the team is showing a worrying performance. Rightly beaten, the Équipe de France did not show such a sad face throughout 2023.”

Le Monde: “A team like the French fails for a reason. If she had such a big problem, it was mainly because Germany played a great game.”

Le Parisien: “France receives a slap in the face and is hardly recognizable. The Bleus go down completely against the European Championship hosts. Without Antoine Griezmann there are no flashes of inspiration and a fighting attitude.”

England

The Guardian: “The German team raises hopes for the 2024 European Championship. Toni Kroos shines on his return and Florian Wirtz scores the fastest German goal of all time in the European Championship hosts’ 2-0 win against France.”

Italy

Gazzetta dello Sport: “Germany is sending strong signals to the competition before the European Championships. Wirtz opened the scoring after eight seconds, and Havertz followed up in the second half. France, on the other hand, is slipping against Nagelsmann’s new Germany.”

Spain

Marca: “Returnee Toni Kroos revives the German team against the French.”

Mundo Deportivo: “Germany destroys Mbappé’s France. Kroos is celebrating a fantastic comeback.”

Sport: “Nagelsmann’s magicians want to put on a show at the European Championships. And at this level there is no doubt they will be able to do that.”
