Jonah Hex is a Confederate soldier who refuses orders from his commander, Quentin Turnbull, to burn down a hospital.

Ultimately Hex is forced to kill his best friend Jeb, Turnbull’s son, who suddenly points a gun at him. Turnbull then tracks down Hex and takes revenge for Jeb’s death by killing Hex’s family.
Hex was found dying and healed by the Crow people, this apparently left him with the ability to talk to the dead. Turnbull faked his death in a hotel fire and the Hex.
In 1876, a group of men led by Turnbull hijacked a train carrying experimental weapons components invented by Eli Whitney.
President Grant is aware that Turnbull plans to rebuild the weapons and use them to attack the US on the 4th of July. Grant instructs Army Lieutenant Grass to find Hex and employ him to track and stop Turnbull.
Hex travels to meet Grass and uses his abilities to interrogate a dead soldier. Was their mission to hunt down Turnbull successful?
