“The four were missing bolts that they should have closed it.” The tailgate of Boeing 737 Max dell’Alaska Airlines – therefore – he missed last January 5th, twenty minutes after take-off, because it had not been fixed well. This is what was ascertained in the report National Transportation Safety Board of the United States investigating the accident that forced the plane to make an emergency landing.
The lack of bolts, we read in the investigation, meant that the door – which covered an unused emergency exit – collapsed moved and so it is staccato creating a hole in the fuselage and consequently a sudden depressurization. The piece was produced by the company Spirit AeroSystems, a Boeing supplier and already under fire for other accidents. According to the reconstruction, the tailgate had been removed at the factory for a series of damages during production, when it was reinstallato in the fuselage for delivery to the American company, at least three of the four bolts were missing, as demonstrated by a series of photo.
Only on Monday did the news emerge that Boeing has taken another 50 undelivered 737 Max aircraft after a supplier employee recently found some wrong holes on some fuselages. A hitch that could delay some deliveries in the short term but the other 737s can continue to fly, the company explained. Also in this case the fuselages were supplied by Spirit AeroSystems.
