From July 1st, the European Union officially launched the electronic vaccine passport.
The passport can be used if the passenger’s new coronavirus screening result is negative or has been infected but has developed antibodies, and has been fully vaccinated. The passport will be in the form of a QR code, which passengers can print into a paper version or show it and scan it with a mobile phone.
However, due to the intricacies of the vaccine pass schemes of European countries, European airports have expressed great concern about this and issued warnings that if the EU countries are not coordinated enough, it will cause long queues of passengers. In addition, EU member states can take emergency measures to block the entry of travelers from areas where the virus is endemic.
At present, the scope of application of the digital vaccine passport covers the 27 member states of the European Union as well as Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, with a validity period of 12 months.
