The film follows Hazel Grace Lancaster, who was diagnosed with cancer and is kept alive thanks to an experimental drug. She is forced by her parents to join a Christian support group. There, she meets Augustus Waters, a boy who also suffers from cancer. The two have different views on illnesses: Hazel only worries about the pain she could cause others, while Augustus dreams of leaving his own mark on the world. However, they fall in love and together, they go through the main conflicts of first love, while fighting to remain optimistic and strong for each other.
