Japanese TV NHK shows footage of the earthquake and the collapse of a building
Japanese television NHK showed images of a webcam aimed at the coastal city of Suzu: during the earthquake of magnitude 7.5 which hit the west-central coast of Japan, footage shows a building collapsing and dust rising from the ground. Shortly afterwards the TV also showed the first waves of the tsunami that hit the city. According to initial information, it is a wave of just over one metre.
The tremor occurred on a peninsula in the Sea of Japan in front of Korea, not in the Pacific as in the destructive earthquake of March 11, 2011. The epicenter was located about 40 kilometers northeast of Anamizu. The hypocenter was focused at approximately 10 kilometers depth. The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami warning, waves up to 5 meters high are expected on the western coasts of Honshu island. The main shock was preceded two minutes earlier by a 5.5 magnitude earthquake and followed by two other strong tremors of 6.2 and 5.2.
