The images published on social media of the devastation after the 7.5 magnitude earthquake
A house collapsed on itself, imploded under the weight of the roof; others in which the walls have bent and rested on the house: these are some of the images that come from Ishigawa prefecture, one of the most affected by the earthquake in Japan on January 1, 2024.
The earthquake, at 16,120 local time, occurred hit the central-western coast of the country: the epicenter was located approximately 40 kilometers north-east of Anamizu, on a peninsula jutting into the Sea of Japan opposite the coast of Korea. The hypocenter was focused at approximately 10 kilometers depth. It was the strongest earthquake in that area since 1885.
