The last obstacle also falls and now Stockholm has the road cleared for entry into Nato. The Hungarian Parliament has in fact approved the accession of the Sweden al Atlantic Pact as the 32nd country. A process started shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine which worried the Scandinavian countries and favored, after the initial obstructionism of the Türkiyethe enlargement of the Alliance.
The approval came with 188 votes in favour, 6 against and no abstentions. A clear and expected result. “Today is one historic day. The parliaments of all NATO member states have now voted in favor of Sweden joining NATO. Sweden is ready to assume its responsibility for Euro-Atlantic security,” the prime minister rejoiced on Ulf Kristersson. After approval by the Hungarian Parliament, the law is expected to be promulgated by the President in the next few days and Sweden will then be able to deposit a Washington its own “instrument of accession” provided for by the Atlantic Pact.
