The last 5 finals of the CONMEBOL Copa América™
  • Argentina came up with three definitions and Brazil to two.
  • Chilewith two titles, is the most champion in this period.

The 48th edition of the CONMEBOL Copa América™ will take place on July 14 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. 16 teams from across the continent dream of reaching that defining stage of the oldest national team tournament in the world.

In the last five editions of the CONMEBOL Copa América™ there have been exciting finals: some were decided by penalties and others very close.

Argentina 2011: Uruguay 3-0 Paraguay

The final was played at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires and featured Uruguay and Paraguay. La Celeste had just had a great World Cup in 2010 (where they finished fourth) and ended up winning 3-0 with goals from Luis Suárez and Diego Forlán (in duplicate). Led by Óscar Tabárez, that team won the 15th CONMEBOL Copa América™ in Uruguay, one of the tournament’s top champions.

Chile 2015:Chile 0 -0 Argentina (4 to 1 on penalties)

The National Stadium of Santiago hosted the definition between Argentina and the local team. After 0-0 in the 90 minutes and extra time, La Roja won from the penalty shootout to win their first title in the history of the tournament, with Jorge Sampaoli as coach. Alexis Sánchez scored the defining penalty and Claudio Bravo was chosen as the best player of that tournament.

United States 2016:Chile 0 -0 Argentina (4 to 2 on penalties)

Once again Chile and Argentina defined the tournament, although this time at the Metlife Stadium in New Jersey. The definition once again ended in a 0-0 draw and Chile took his two-time championship from the twelve steps. Francisco Silva converted the decisive penalty to seal the victory for the team led by Juan Antonio Pizzi.

Brazil 2019: Brazil 3-1 Peru

In the mythical Maracaná in Rio de Janeiro, Verdeamarelha faced Peru. It was a victory for the local team, led by Tite, with goals from Éverton, Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison, while Paolo Guerrero had tied the match. It was the ninth title for Brazil in the CONMEBOL Copa América™.

Brazil 2021: Argentina 1-0 Brazil

Once again the Maracaná was the host of a definition of this prestigious tournament. The local team was once again one of those involved in the definition and this time, on the other side, was Lionel Messi’s Argentina. The Albiceleste, led by Lionel Scaloni, won 1-0 with a goal from Di María and ended a 28-year streak without winning the tournament. In this way he raised his 15th star and reached Uruguay as the most champions of the tournament.

On July 14, the CONMEBOL Copa América United States 2024™ will be defined and the entire continent hopes to reach Miami.
