The lawyer Siniscalchi together with Maradona
The lawyer died in Naples Vincenzo Maria Siniscalchi, authentic prince of the Neapolitan Forum: he was 92 years old. Already assistant of Roman Law and Criminal Law at the University of Naples, he was also president of the Council of the Bar Association of Naples, as well as a member of Parliament. Funeral on Wednesday 14 February at 11am in the church of the Ascension in Chiaia.
Born in Naples on 7 August 1931 (his father, Francesco Saverio Siniscalchi, was another great Neapolitan criminal lawyer), among his best-known defenses are those of Diego Armando Maradona (both in criminal trials and in sports justice), but also of numerous personalities from the world of entertainment such as Gigi Sabani, Tinto Brass, Michelangelo Antonioni and Franco Califano, the latter in the Cutolo-Tortora trial. But not only that: he was also a lawyer in the activities of the Proletarian Armed Nuclei and Workers’ Autonomy, as well as in trials of politicians such as Ciriaco De Mita, Vincenzo Scotti, Antonio Cariglia and several other trials related to Tangentopoli. Other big names defended were the companies Impregilo, Lega delle Cooperative, La Fondiaria Assicurazioni and Ansaldo.
He was also an active politician: in 1995 he was elected to the House of Representatives with a Rifondazione Comunista-Partito della Sinistra coalition, then in 1996 re-elected with the Democratic Party of the Left L’Ulivo and again in 2001 with the Democrats of the Left, also taking part in the Committee for authorizations to proceed in the Chamber. In the period 2006-2010 he was also part, as a lay member, of the Superior Council of the Judiciary with a consensus of 710 votes in favor within the Italian Parliament.
