What a performance of will from FC Südtirol: The White-Reds won an important point in the eagerly awaited duel against leaders Parma on Saturday. Relegation in Serie B is now another step closer.
06. April 2024
From the Drusus Stadium
Parma has dominated the current Serie B season: before the duel with FCS, the traditional club was six points ahead of rivals Cremonese at the top. Promotion is difficult to take away from Fabio Pecchia’s team. However, this afternoon the team from Emilia-Romagna faced an opponent who played with a knife between their teeth. Who showed no fear. And who in the end really deserved the 0-0 draw.
Why the teams are separated by 27 points in the table became clear in the almost sold-out Drususstadion. However, the FCS managed to make up for the qualitative deficits with an enormous amount of heart, passion and commitment. Even when the league leaders resorted to their dreaded passing game, Valente’s troops remained compact and defended rock solidly. And when things got dangerous, goalkeeper Giacomo Poluzzi was always at his post. The truth is, however, that the White-Reds hardly posed a goal threat.
Poluzzi earned top marks that day, defusing several dangerous Parma attacks with stoic calm. Offensive spirit Daniele Casiraghi also knew how to impress with his pace and imagination. Raphael Odogwu, on the other hand, left a tired impression. The Italian-Nigerian also had a difficult time against the compact Parma defense. The FCS continues next Saturday when the game against Sampdoria starts at 2 p.m.
The highlights
Hello awakeThe fans in the Drususstadion were brought out of their seats for the first time: Odogwu took a Casiraghi cross with his chest, but his finish was too weak. On the other hand, Mihaila is unlucky if she hits the crossbar.Mihaila againA loss of the ball in midfield almost cost the home team dearly: Poluzzi showed strong reflexes against Mihaila and prevented the score from being 0-1.Great dangerThe white and reds escape into the dressing room: shots from Estevez and Cyprien are deflected by FCS players and only fly past the goal by a hair.Poluzzi wide awakeA few minutes before the end, Parma became really dangerous again: Substitute Bonny played for Man, who took measurements in the penalty area, but failed because of the strong Poluzzi.Rovers ChanceIn stoppage time, Matteo Rover has the chance for the lucky punch: However, his finish after a quickly triggered counterattack misses the goal.
