The Police and the Army of Ecuador carry out an operation to confiscate “prohibited objects” in the country’s main prison

The Police and the Armed Forces of Ecuador carried out an important joint operation in the country’s main prison on Thursday. The police force reported the operation through a message on its social media account. The operation was aimed at carrying out a search for prohibited objects and maintaining control inside the prison center. The operation occurred on the same day that two individuals were arrested for the murder of prosecutor César Suárez, who was killed by hitmen in the coastal city of Guayaquil.

The murder of prosecutor Suárez occurred in the midst of a state of emergency and the declaration of an internal armed conflict by the Government of Daniel Noboa. The escalation of violence has been attributed to criminal gangs, and the government has committed to supporting the administration of justice within the framework of the “internal war” it is carrying out against transnational organized crime.

In addition to the operation at the main prison, images were released on Wednesday showing the authorities’ work at the Turi Rehabilitation Center in Cuenca. Heavy machinery was used to remove waste from prisoners, including boxes and other items from the prison premises.

The State Attorney General, Diana Salazar, has expressed her commitment to continue the fight against organized crime groups despite the challenges. The government has also expressed its support for the police force and the Armed Forces in their efforts to maintain control and security within the country’s prisons.
