The primaries in Iowa, seen from there

The Republican Party primaries to choose the presidential candidate for November 5th began on Monday with the caucuses in Iowa, in the United States. The vote was held in a Midwestern state where temperatures are normally very low in winter, but where this year they were even lower: however, the severe cold and snowstorms did not block Donald Trump’s voters. The former president won by a landslide, with 51 percent of the votes, followed by his main challengers: Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida, with 21.2 percent, and Nikki Haley, former governor of South Carolina, with 19. 1 percent.

Francesco Costa was in Iowa to follow the primaries, and in this video he told how it went in the snow, rallies in rooms that were too small and the seat in the gym of an elementary school. The video is part of the project Post “From Coast to Coast”, which tells the story of the country that has the greatest influence on a large part of the world, the United States of America, and the electoral campaign that will decide its future.

Every Saturday from January 6th, a newsletter written by Francesco Costa takes stock of politics, culture and society in the United States, as well as the latest news on the presidential election campaign. It’s free and sign up here.
The next primary event will be Tuesday, January 23, in New Hampshire: From Coast to Coast and the post they will be there too.
