He handed it to Mohamed Salah who immediately opened fire. Salah’s kick was blocked by Guglielmo Vicario. The ball was hit by Elliott. Christian Romero made the save by blocking Elliott’s shot on the goal line.
Continuing to attack, Liverpool were finally able to break the deadlock in the 16th minute. Cody Gakpo’s measured pass from the left freed Salah from the offside trap. Salah was able to greet him with a header that Vicario couldn’t stop.
Liverpool did not relax their attacks after taking the lead. It was Luis Diaz’s turn to have a chance. The shot was from a narrow angle but Vicario was still able to block it.
Diaz had another chance in the 40th minute. He once again missed an opportunity. Receiving feedback from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diaz chose to shoot an acrobatic shot that was far from the target.
Liverpool did not give Tottenham the opportunity to develop their game. The Lilywhites were not comfortable controlling the ball as a result pressing The Red.
Vicario worked hard to withstand Liverpool’s attack. He made a save when he was able to ward off Elliott’s kick.
In the 45th minute, Vicario was back in action when he was able to block Salah’s low kick in front of the goal. However, he couldn’t do much, but Andrew Robertson hit the ball and turned it into a goal.
Score 2-0 for Liverpool closed the first half.
