Anti-aircraft sirens rang out in the air, commemorating the bombing of Guernica in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War every year.
Scenic images of great emotional impact from the massive demonstration that was held yesterday in San Sebastian, in the Basque Country, to ask for a “stop to the genocide in Gaza”.
Hundreds of people lay on the ground to represent the death of thousands of Palestinians, in an emblematic point of the city, near Eduardo Chillida’s sculptures known as ‘Peine del Viento’. Anti-aircraft sirens rang out in the air, each year commemorating the bombing of Guernica in 1937, during the Spanish civil war. An image of Pablo Picasso’s famous painting Guernica was displayed next to the protesters.
The event was organized by the Kulturatik group which brings together exponents of Basque culture. The event ended with the reading of a manifesto in Basque and Spanish by some actresses who invited the population to “not get used to” what is happening in Gaza.
