As tensions continue to escalate between Israel and the Hamas terrorist group, a Palestinian woman visited the al-Aqsa complex in Jerusalem’s Old City, also known as the Temple Mount to Jews. The visit comes amid calls from Hamas for a general mobilization to confront the Israeli occupation during the holy month of Ramadan.

Hamas spokesperson Abu Obeida called for an escalation in the ‘Al Aqsa Flood’ operation, both inside and outside Palestine. This violent proclamation follows the failure of negotiations in Cairo last week, where mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and the United States were trying to reach a truce in the Gaza Strip.

Despite calls from conservative parties in the Israeli coalition to restrict access to worshipers at the site, the Israeli government confirmed that it will not impose restrictions, especially during the upcoming month of Ramadan. Thousands of special permits are typically granted to Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza Strip to visit Al Aqsa during Ramadan, with millions of faithful attending prayers at the site last year.

President Joe Biden expressed regret that a ceasefire has not been achieved between Israel and Hamas before Ramadan, expressing concerns about the possibility of violence in Jerusalem during the holy month. The complex where Al Aqsa is located holds significant religious importance for both Muslims and Jews, with tensions often running high in the area.

In a related development, the sister of an Israeli hostage taken by Hamas in the October 7 attack is demanding his release. The attack, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the kidnapping of 134 hostages, has left a lasting impact on both Israeli and Palestinian communities. Hamas claims that over 30,900 people have died in the Gaza Strip during the five-month conflict.
