The United States has announced travel restrictions of the staff of their diplomatic offices in Israel and their family members: the reason was not made explicit, but it is very likely that it concerns the fact that an imminent attack by Iran against targets linked to Israel has been expected for a few days. Staff will not be allowed to leave urban areas of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Beer Sheva until further notice, out of “an abundance of caution,” the embassy said in a statement. The embassy advised U.S. citizens in Israel in general to pay greater attention to their own safety, given that incidents “often occur without warning.” He also said that the restrictions could be extended in the coming days, and could include a ban on frequenting areas considered particularly at risk, such as East Jerusalem.
