The United States they imposed sanctions against four companies based in Iran and Hong Kong involved in the production of drones and ballistic missiles, and against a company based in Hong Kong that sells Iranian products in China. Some officials from the Islamic Revolutionary Guards, Iran’s most important military force, believed to be responsible for cyberattacks against the United States, were also placed under sanctions. The sanctions freeze the properties of those involved in the United States, and prohibit US people and companies from doing business with them.
Since the war in the Gaza Strip began in October 2023, various Iranian-backed armed groups have carried out dozens of missile and drone attacks against US military bases in the Middle East, especially in Syria and Iraq. On Sunday, one such attack, against a base in Jordan, killed three soldiers and injured 30 others. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that in general all drones responsible for attacks against US bases in Middle East have Iranian origin.
