White House Warns of Possible Iranian Attack on Israel: Sources

The White House National Security Council is closely monitoring the situation amid fears of a potential direct attack by Iran against Israel, which remains a “very credible, viable and imminent” scenario. This comes after a week of Iranian threats following an attack on its consulate in Damascus, Syria.

“We still consider the potential threat from Iran to be real, it is certainly credible,” said National Security Council spokesman John Kirby in a telephone briefing. Two US government officials have even stated anonymously to CBS that Iran could launch an attack against Israeli military bases with more than a hundred drones and dozens of missiles.

US President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation and has reiterated his commitment to the defense of Israel. Tensions between Israel and Iran have escalated after an attack allegedly carried out by the Israeli Army on the Iranian consulate in Damascus resulted in casualties.

In an effort to prevent further escalation, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has been in contact with counterparts from Turkey, China, and Saudi Arabia. The Pentagon is also closely monitoring the situation and will take necessary steps to protect US forces.

General Michael Kurilla, head of the United States Central Command, recently met with Israeli officials to discuss potential scenarios arising from the Iranian threat. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant reaffirmed Israel’s solidarity with the US, stating that their enemies are only strengthening the bond between the two nations.

The situation remains fluid, with tensions high and both sides on high alert. The global community is closely monitoring developments as they unfold.
