The Voice 2024 – Aprile, 19, joins Vianney’s team: “I was really going to choose Mika but…”

INTERVIEW

How do you feel after the blind auditions?

I feel very good ! Above all, I can’t wait to see myself on TV again because we’re not very objective when we live the experience. In the heat of the moment, we don’t get along too much either, and I was less focused when the coaches turned around.

Did you expect to be a hit?

It was totally unexpected! I was singing in my room and then I arrive in The Voice, the four armchairs turn around, it’s incredible! I remember some things the coaches said to me but 60% are forgotten because of the adrenaline.

Why did you choose to interpret Vampire d’Olivia Rodrigo?

I knew it was the right one when I managed to make my father cry, which happens very rarely! He always tells me that I have to be emotional when I sing.

What state of mind were you in before going on stage?

Oddly, I wasn’t anxious. I’m more stressed when I sing in front of three people who are two meters from me than in front of a whole audience. I feel more legitimate when I’m on stage. I really wanted to give the performance of my life and not disappoint myself because I had been projecting myself into this moment for years.

You spent a lot of time choosing your coach. Why this long hesitation?

Before going on stage, I was sure I wanted to join Mika’s team, of whom I have always been a fan. But when we’re on set, it’s really the human being we meet and I was called by Vianney. It was a real dilemma! I hesitated between satisfying the little girl that I was and listening to the young woman that I am. I finally chose Vianney not because he told me he would take me to the final but because I felt he was very human.

What made you want to participate in The Voice ?

I want to do The Voice since I was little! I always told myself that it was the most accessible door to enter the world of music. I always dreamed of becoming a singer but no one in my family knows anything about it and I’m starting from scratch. I don’t know how to produce music and I don’t have any contacts. The Voice was therefore obvious. I’ve been watching the show since it started. From the age of 8, I said to myself, in front of my TV: “I want to be there, I want the coaches to turn around and I want to live this experience”.

Why do it now?

I had already auditioned twice, when I was in second grade and then in first grade. I didn’t try my luck again in my final year because I didn’t think much about it anymore and I was posting covers on the internet. Then it came back. I don’t know why but I told myself it was the right time and it worked!

In your portrait, we see that your father has always supported you in this project. How do you explain it?

He is very invested because he himself had a song dream when he was younger. He understands what I want to experience but he always told me: “If you get started, I support you. On the other hand, you don’t do it until you’re 16.” He didn’t want me to The Voice Kids and in hindsight it was a good thing. It’s already a lot of pressure to do The Voice, there’s a lot to take in.

Was it your dad who passed on this passion for music to you?

I’m not sure it’s him. I think it was Disney that made me want to sing. I was listening to the We Love Disney albums and Indila was the first singer I loved thanks to a Disney song. I didn’t really have a role model.

Have you ever taken singing lessons?

I’ve never taken singing lessons. I was afraid, rightly or wrongly, that it would slow me down in my process of seeking creativity. But my father coached me a lot (Laughs)! For years, I forced myself to sing high because I had a desire for delicacy and femininity. My father told me to try singing in the lower register and it suits me better! For two years, I really knew my voice.

What do you expect from the adventure The Voice ?

I want to show people who I am and also find out who I am because I’m only 19 years old. I dreamed of being a singer so much that I hope to become who I imagined myself to be.
