Clumsy and uninspired, Monaco was eliminated against Rouen, the national team (third division), after losing on penalties (1-1, 6-5), this Thursday in the round of 16 of the French Cup.
After eliminating the defending champions, Toulouse, in the previous round, in an incredible duel (3-3, 12-11 on penalties), Rouen achieved another feat.
Now the Norman team will host second division Valenciennes in the quarterfinals at the end of February.
Without Wissam Ben Yedder, reserved for the crucial derby against Nice in Ligue 1 this weekend, Monaco paid for their lack of forcefulness against a team completely uncomplexed despite the two divisions that separate both teams.
Rouen was infected by the spectacular atmosphere in their stadium, with excessive use of flares, which will undoubtedly cost them a fine.
