Fritz Wepper is dead. The actor died on Monday morning in a hospice – less than six months after his brother Elmar Wepper.
On Monday it was announced that Fritz Wepper died at the age of 82. “Fritz fell asleep peacefully,” confirmed his wife Susanne Kellermann to “Bild”. The actor, who had repeatedly struggled with health problems in recent years, spent the last few weeks in a hospice. Just a few months earlier, Fritz Wepper’s brother Elmar had also died.
Elmar Wepper, who also had a career as an actor, died of sudden heart failure at the end of October last year at the age of 79. The funeral, which Fritz Wepper also attended, took place at the Winthirfriedhof in the Neuhausen district of Munich, where Elmar was buried in the family grave.
The brothers will probably soon be reunited there: “My final resting place has been decided for a long time, it is our family grave in the Winthirfriedhof in Munich-Neuhausen,” said Wepper in the 2021 documentary “My Fritz – A personal look at Fritz Wepper”.
“Nothing can compensate for this emotional loss”
The death of his younger brother was a terrible loss for the actor. “My only consolation is that Elmar didn’t have to suffer,” he said at the time on “Bild” and added: “Nevertheless, it is heartbroken for me and the family. It is difficult to accept and not to put into words at the moment. This emotional loss Nothing can compensate for it.”
The brothers’ lives often overlapped. Fritz Wepper, who was already a successful actor at the time, persuaded his little brother to also enter the film industry. At some point Elmar Wepper took over his role in “The Commissioner” – the beginning of a great career.
Even though Elmar Wepper was always a little in the shadow of his famous brother, he wrote television history just like him. He touched a large audience with his films such as “Cherry Blossoms – Hanami”, and alongside Uschi Glas he thrilled fans in “Two Münchner in Hamburg”.
