This will happen on May 1st in the Upper and Southern Palatinate

Be careful with the phrase: May makes everything new. That’s why we like to celebrate it so much: from the Andergasser Fest to the Handkeesfeschdt to the May Festival.

A short foray through the event calendar, which of course does not claim to be complete – the people of Palatinate simply love to party for that. Many people danced into May 1st in wonderfully pleasant temperatures, for example in the open air on the Maikerwe in Landau, in front of the backdrop of the Ferris wheel and other illuminated rides and tents.

Celebration on the holiday

On May 1st there are also many great festivals and events in the Vorder- and Southern Palatinate. For example, the May festival in the Ludwigshafen garden city or a May picnic in the spa gardens in Bad Dürkheim and of course the hand cheese festival in Lustadt in the southern Palatinate (Germersheim district). Of course, maypoles are also set up, for example in Landau-Wollmesheim and in Wachenheim an der Weinstrasse (Bad Dürkheim district).

At the Lustadter Handkeesfescht in the southern Palatinate, beer is served (as an exception).

Hiking on the holiday

“Hiking – experiencing nature – celebrating festivals”: This is the motto under which the Palatinate Forest Association of Klingenmünster (Südliche Weinstraße district) is organizing its traditional “May Festival on Karlsplatz”. Karlsplatz, located in the middle of the forest, can be reached in a star shape on well-marked hiking trails from the surrounding towns. If you want to arrive by car, we recommend the large parking lot at the Klingbachhalle; If you come by bus, get off at the stop on Karl-Hoffmann-Straße in Klingenmünster.

The train is running again

The historic Cuckoo Railway starts the new season tomorrow. The museum railway, which is usually powered by steam, runs through the Elmsteiner Valley (Bad Dürkheim district) on Sundays and public holidays and is celebrating its 40th birthday this year. As an exception, a diesel locomotive will be in use on May 1st. If you can’t take part on Wednesday, you can look forward to the first weekend in June: There will be several steam locomotives on the route to mark the anniversary.

Several DGB rallies

Of course, the celebrations and rallies of the German Trade Union Confederation should not be missing on Labor Day. This year, events are planned in Ludwigshafen, Frankenthal and Haßloch (Bad Dürkheim district), among others.
