Threat from IS channel to Allianz Arena: More police at top game

There are security concerns before the top game in the Bundesliga this Saturday (6.30 p.m./Sky) between FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. The IS propaganda channel Sarh al-Khilafah shared an image of the Allianz Arena with crosshairs on Friday. The Arabic words “after the game” are written on it. The post can be understood as a threat against stadium visitors.

The Munich police are currently not assuming an acute threat situation, they wrote on X on Saturday afternoon. However, additional officers would secure the area around the stadium in the evening.

In a top game in this category, 300 to 500 people are normally deployed. “We are now increasing this number,” said a spokesman. It is not yet known exactly how many officers will be on duty in and around the stadium. FC Bayern said they were in contact with the police. The game will take place as planned.

According to its own information, the Federal Ministry of the Interior also has no concrete indications of a threat to the Bundesliga’s top game. “The facts in question are known to the federal security authorities. We currently have no concrete indications of a dangerous situation,” said a ministry spokesman for the German Press Agency. The federal and state governments are in close and constant communication and are taking the necessary measures, he added.

Germany and France plan police cooperation at EM

According to Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD), the terrorist group ISPK, which is suspected to be behind the attack in Moscow, also threatens Germany. France recently raised its terror alert level. Both countries want to support each other in the fight against terrorism at the European Football Championship and the Olympic Games.

“German police forces will be deployed at the Olympics in Paris, French police will be deployed at the Euros in Germany,” said Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) to the “Handelsblatt”.

According to Minister Faeser, the German security authorities will arm themselves “even more strongly against all current threats”. This ranges “from protection against Islamists and other potential violent criminals to the security of our networks against cyber attacks”. The federal and state governments are doing everything they can to “identify and stop Islamist terrorist plans early on.”
