Tim Mälzer and Lukas Mraz have to face a local classic in Nagoya – the Mazesoba, a ramen variation. Tim has already had his experiences with ramen. Not good ones, though. Fun fact: Lukas Mraz sent Tim to Copenhagen to recreate the Japanese noodle soup. A rogue who thinks evil of it. After all, Lukas won “Kitchen Impossible” back then.
Admittedly, Tim’s Austrian opponent has a slight advantage with this dish: he loves Chinese Sichuan cuisine and also knows ramen quite well. Completely in contrast to Tim Mälzer. For him, “Tare”, “Tantan” or “Gochuan” are Bohemian villages.
Under the strict eye of Mazesoba inventor Naoto Niiyama, the two take on the challenge and work together like real best friends. Well, pretty much, because Tim Mälzer tries to wrap Lukas around his finger in his own unique way. We’ve known since the Kitchen Christmas specials that Mr. Kitchen Impossible likes to give gifts. He has a knife case for Lukas with the finest Japanese knives. But the king of the “kitchen” isn’t that unselfish after all. So that Lukas can try out his knives, surely he doesn’t mind peeling the garlic for Tim? And maybe chop the ginger too? “He didn’t do anything,” says Lukas indignantly as he looks at the pictures together.
