TORINO COMICS THE 30TH EDITION KICKS OFF

This morning the official opening event of the XXVIII edition of Torino Comics took place in the Sala Rossa of Lingotto Fiere.

Lorenza Patriarca, President of the culture commission of the City of Turin

“Very honored to represent the city and the mayor at this event, and also on their behalf I congratulate you because Torino Comics is an unmissable event at a national level, but which has its roots in a very Turin tradition. Perhaps not everyone knows it but Paola Lombroso Carrara, daughter of the famous Lombroso, was the one who invented and strongly supported the Corriere dei Piccoli: with great determination she went to the director and convinced him of the importance – innovative and futuristic – of an illustrated magazine for children, which was born in 1908 to reinforce the idea that literature can also entertain. Here too, in entertainment, we are creating culture.”

Maurizio Marrone, Councilor for Social Policies and Social-Health Integration of the Piedmont region

“I subscribe to the message that has been launched: comics and games are culture with a capital C. Torino Comics is a great event, but above all it brings together people, because, as we can see, very different young people find themselves united here by the same passion. We saw clearly that gaming is aggregation with the pandemic and the lockdowns, when online gaming was able to maintain relationships. A very important skill, especially if the game is inclusive and at Torino Comics it is. In fact, we greatly appreciate the space given to disability and the approach with which it is addressed: disability is not survival but quality of life, also through play. Once again Turin is at the forefront.

Vittorio Pavesio, patron of the event, and Claudio Castellini, author of the official poster of Torino Comics 2024, I am on stage to tell the story of these 30 years of Torino Comics, born in ’94, among the first micro events resulting from the Lucca Comics event which had brought to light the great passion for comics. Castellini explains how the design that wants to celebrate techno fantasy, the theme of this edition, was born. “A great honor to participate in this important role,” he said. A poster that highlights the city hosting the event, so much so that the winged horse (typical of fantasy, but with mechanical wings) assumes the position of the famous bull of Turin, and wears a crown with horns to recall the animal symbol of the city. In the background the Mole Antonelliana, the mother symbol of the Piedmontese capital.

Enrico Melato – Communication & marketing GL events

It doesn’t often happen that we blow out the 30 candles of an event, which is why it was important for us to meet up with friends and partners who participated in the success of this event, which has become a point of reference for the city. Many guest authors, like never before this year, moments of education and in-depth analysis, of culture, information and entertainment. And then we continue to grow: an example of this is the Cult project, which cuts across the two fairs that the Lingotto is hosting in recent weeks and which unites two worlds, that of comics and that of cars”

“We work on passions, and here every visitor can find and experience their passion, from technology to gaming, from comics to music, from cosplay to k-pop. Torino Comics tries to keep up with the times and give space to what the public loves and seeks, always growing and investing. This year, for example, we gave a lot of space to Onda sonorous, with a project that enhances dubbing in video games.”

Accessibility is the key and the promise and Torino Comics wants to be 100% accessible and has been working in this direction for years. Giovanni Ferrero of the Consulta for people in difficulty presents the space dedicated to inclusion: “for us, gaming is a serious thing. We want to have fun with disabilities by playing, with experiences, and here at Torino Comics you can experience many of them, from the blindfolded memory game to creating a comic with your mouth for limbless artists, and here we present a preview of the virtual reality video game in which the The user moves around the house and the city as if he were in a wheelchair”. For the occasion the CPD also has presented in absolute preview Virtual Disability Experience (VDE), the first virtual reality video game that puts you in the shoes of a disabled person in a wheelchair.
