Track bike: Emergency surgery for Kristina Vogel – double Olympic champion suffered a pulmonary embolism

To the hospital on Saturday evening

After she got worse and worse on the night from Friday to Saturday, her boyfriend Michael Seidenbecher (39) took her to the Berlin Accident Hospital on Saturday morning. “One more day at home would probably have been my last day!” said the former exceptional track cyclist and posted a photo from the hospital bed in which she was smiling again and still showing her left thumb up. “Bild” first reported about it.

In the normal ward since Monday

Vogel had already undergone several operations in the Berlin accident hospital in 2018 after her serious training accident. Since then she has been paralyzed and uses a wheelchair. Once again, the employees of the Berlin hospital probably saved her life, said Vogel. On Monday, the eleven-time track cycling world champion was moved from the intensive care unit to the normal ward and will remain in the hospital for observation for a few more days. According to Vogel, initial assessments indicate that her paralysis was not the cause; further investigations will follow.

“A bit like a family reunion”

The Thuringian has already found her sense of humor again: “It’s a bit like a family reunion here. I see a lot of people from 2018 again,” she wrote with the reference: “Attention, dark humor.”
