Gloomy start

Last year’s bronze winner Tromsø has had a rotten start to the season. Four straight series losses and a cup exit against Vålerenga was the foretaste before Sunday’s away game against a Viking team hungry for points. On Sunday, there was another loss.

Djibril Diop also hit the crossbar, but it would have been ruled out for offside if it had gone in.

It took a corner kick to give Viking the lead in the 52nd minute. The serve from Zlatko Tripic went over Lasse Nordås at the near post, and behind him Salvesen won the aerial duel with Guddal and nodded into the far corner.

Tromsø had shown little progress until then, but responded immediately. Kent-Are Antonsen pursued a long forward play and reached the ball at the dead line. Gianni Stensness threw himself and prevented the cross from reaching Nordås, who was ready to shoot, but the ball went straight to Ruben Yttergård Jenssen. The captain shot it flat in the corner.

A quarter of an hour before full time, it was Tromsø that had almost taken the lead. Yann-Erik de Lanlay miscalculated the arc of the ball on a long play from the Tromsø goalkeeper, and Runar Norheim came alone with the goalkeeper. Patrik Gunnarsson stepped out and saved.

It seemed to ebb away with 1-1, but two minutes into overtime came the situation that became decisive for the Vikings.

Viking hosts Levanger in the cup on Wednesday and Strømsgodset in the series next Sunday. Tromsø will be visited by Odd in the next series round.
