Turned away after biting an agent, Biden’s dogs return to the White House

by admin

WASHINGTON – Joe Biden has a weakness for dogs, and in particular for the youngest of his two German shepherds, the biting Major, accused last month of attacking a White House secret agent and therefore removed from the presidential residence. The American press then wrote that Major was immediately sent back, along with the gentler Champ, to the President’s family home in the state of Delaware, to undergo training that would make him less of a brawler.

The US president, however, corrected this version of events by specifying first of all that Major, the first dog adopted in the history of the White House, did not bite the agent but simply reacted by seeing a stranger proceed towards a place he thought he had to defend. Biden also said his beloved German shepherd had not been removed from the White House as punishment for his act, but that his return to Delaware was long overdue, as both he and his wife had to leave Washington for a few days.

Biden then added that Major is loved by 85% of the White House staff: “what he just does is lick whoever he meets, upsetting everyone.” Major, now 3 years old, was taken by the Bidens as a puppy in a Delaware kennel. Champ, on the other hand, who is 12, had already stayed for a while in the White House when Biden was Obama’s vice president.

The chronicles report other presidential dogs accused of having bitten strangers: that of Obama, Sunny, a breed of water dog of Portuguese origin, who in 2017 bit a little girl on a visit to the White House; and Barney, George W. Bush’s Scottish terrier who nearly took a finger off a Reuters reporter. On that occasion, First Lady Laura Bush ironically said that “this is the way she treats the paparazzi.”
