U23: Visiting Meuselwitz

Getting up again away from home is the motto of our U23’s upcoming business trip. After a successful start to the year with a home win against the Berliner Athletik Klub, our boys had to admit defeat twice in the Regionalliga Nordost against FSV Zwickau and against VSG Altglienicke. Now the turnaround should be successful again in Thuringia. “In the last game we weren’t able to do as much with our possession of the ball as in previous games. We have been working on this and would like to bring this content to the pitch in Meuselwitz,” emphasizes coach Stephan Schmidt.

A league institution

Our host has become a real institution in the Northeast Regional League. The Zipsendorf football club has been playing in the fourth-class regional league since 2012 and, according to the all-time table, has played the most games in the season, exactly one more than our boys. To put it into perspective: In his first season, the veteran competed against today’s Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. In the here and now, head coach Georg-Martin Leopold’s team is in 14th place in the table. The first two matches of the year against BFC Dynamo and FSV Luckenwalde were each narrowly lost 0-1. “Our opponents will go into the game all the more determined on their home pitch. We have to and will be ready for that,” says our coach.

In the first leg both sides shared the points, with Florian Hansch canceling out Derry Scherhant’s opening goal in the 1:1 (1:1) (LINK SB). Now our Hertha team would like to achieve something impressive again in Altenburger Land. “We want to score points, that’s the clear goal. If the boys reach their performance limit, that is definitely possible,” says head coach Schmidt. It would be the kind of reaction our trainer would like to see from his charges.
