A series of intimidation e dossiers to the detriment of some journalists Critics of the Ukrainian government forced President Volodymyr Zelensky to intervene in defense of freedom of the press. In the past the online newspaper had published investigations on people close to Zelensky, such as the former deputy police chief Dmytro Tyshlekthe leader of the president’s party David Arakhamia and the chief of staff Andriy Yermak. The video and wiretaps were used as an argument to question the reliability of the articles, defined as the work of a “drug addict”.

Two days earlier, Monday 15 January, the investigative journalist Yurii Nikolov he had received a visit from two strangers who had knocked insistently on the door of his house, shouting “traitor“, “ambushed” and “servant of the Kremlin.” Nikolov had previously carried out some of the major investigations into corruption within the Defense Ministry. A pro-government Telegram channel claimed that the perpetrators of the intimidation were two soldiers returning from the front, enraged because the journalist had avoided enlisting.
