At some point Ukraine will have to negotiate with Russia to try to end the war. This was said today by French President Emmanuel Macron, who did not confirm Friday’s visit to Kiev with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.
“The Ukrainian president and his men will have to negotiate with Russia,” Macron said, during a visit to Romania and Moldova. Macron arrived in Romania on Tuesday for a three-day trip to NATO’s southern flank, including Moldova, and promised European guarantees to Ukraine, calling Russia “a fearsome power” with which Europeans “do not want war”: “We Europeans will be present at that table to offer security guarantees,” he said.
