The Russian offensive in Ukraine moves to the eastern and southern fronts. A force attack in the Donbass region – the pro-Russian separatist area – seems imminent, but the southwestern coastal area of Odessa has also become a prime target for Moscow, with the city being bombed and fired by missiles. At dawn in the city there were loud explosions. For Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, “Russia wants to gain control of both Donbass and the south of the country”.
On the other hand, on Saturday evening the Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Defense declared that the troops of Kiev have regained control of the entire region of the capital.
Some glimmers appear on the diplomatic front: a Ukrainian negotiator, quoted by the Reuters news agency, declares that Russia has accepted Kiev’s position with the exception of the status of Crimea. The Ukrainian agency Interfax also reports that the draft of a possible agreement between Kiev and Moscow would be at a sufficiently advanced stage to allow a face to face between Putin and Zelensky.
