Ukrainian crisis, Kiev’s request: “On May 9 a concert at the Valentino Park in Turin”

TURIN. Music speaks a single language, but it has the ability and strength to convey different values and meanings such as the culture of a people, the pride, its traditions and the artists of an entire country. A precious instrument of closeness and solidarity, especially given the war that has been detonated in the heart of Europe for almost two months. A project that is being worked on at the moment is to organize a day for Ukraine inside the Eurovillage, the entertainment village that will take shape at Valentino in a few days, as part of the Eurovision off events. Song Contest. A concert that will see the participation of the Kalush Orchestra (the Ukrainian ensemble that will perform in the official kermesse at the Palaolimpico), but also other Ukrainian bands and representatives of other nations. The date has yet to be decided, it will probably be Monday 9 May (immediately after the parade of the delegations at the Reggia di Venaria).

Tomorrow could be the day of the formalization, in the meantime the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, the company of public networks together with the embassy and consulate present in Italy, have activated the event to set up the event. Among the activists who are spending themselves to make the initiative possible is Olga Kozyrenko: “The idea is to give life to a concert separate from the main one of the festival, we would like it to be an open platform where to present culture, music and singers of the ‘Ukraine – he says on the phone from Kiev -. It is important to talk about the situation that our country is experiencing and to give all possible support, in this case we have the opportunity to speak not only to the Italian people, but to those from all over Europe “. The pop showcase of Eurovision, which each year gathers 200 million spectators, is the bearer of a message of peace and solidarity.

For this reason, the dialogues with the Eurovillage management continue. The first date was supposed to be May 7, but on the same day the Kalush Orchestra will be engaged in one of the performances at the Palaolimpico. So the right time will most likely be May 9th. There may also be a supportive aspect. “We are evaluating the possibility of raising funds during the concert, with a small market of Ukrainian objects and souvenirs, the proceeds of which would be donated to our embassy in Italy,” explains Olga Kozyrenko. Another corner of the Village would be dedicated to Mother’s Day on May 8, to underline the strength and importance of Ukrainian mothers during the ongoing war.

The set-up of the Eurovillage will start on Tuesday, with the laying of the stage (where the concerts will take place off) and of the three big screens (to follow the live coverage of the two semifinals and the grand final). Together with the prefecture, the Municipality is preparing the last details regarding safety: between 17,000 and 20,000 people will be able to access the fenced area at the same time, which is why free entrances will still be monitored in real time.
