United Kingdom, Charles and Diana’s slice of wedding cake sold at auction for over two thousand euros

by admin

More than 40 years after the fateful cut, a slice of Carlo and Diana’s wedding cake was auctioned for 1,850 pounds (about 2,185 euros). The slice of cake with icing and marzipan base, coming from one of the 23 official cakes set up for the royal wedding, bears a seal that reproduces the royal coat of arms, colored in gold, red, blue and silver. It was then offered to Moya Smith, a member of the Queen Mother’s entourage, at Clarence House, who preserved it by wrapping it in clear plastic.

Since then, the slice of cake has been placed in a container for sweets decorated with floral motifs, sealed with a label, which reads: «Handle with care – Wedding cake of Prince Charles and Princess Diane (another peculiarity, the spelling error, ed) “. The label was then signed by Smith, with the date 29/7/81.

Smith’s family sold the ‘relic’ in 2008 to a collector, but the piece of cake was put up for auction again, coinciding with what would have been the 40th wedding anniversary of the princes of Wales. Dominic Winter Auctioneers in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, who expected to raise between £ 300 and £ 500, took care of the auction today. But a series of offers raised the price, until a buyer from the Middle East launched his offer over the internet, winning it for £ 1,850.
