Previously, Padang Police Chief, Kombes Ferry Harahap, confirmed that the explosion that occurred in the waiting room around the Poly Clinic, Semen Padang Hospital (SPH), Padang, West Sumatra (Sumbar) was not caused by a bomb. According to him, the explosion was thought to have been triggered by a gas cylinder from welding workers who were repairing the AC in the SPH building.

“This (explosion) was not a bomb, so there was no bomb explosion. What happened was that on the 7th floor of the hospital, AC repairs were being carried out. So there was welding work,” he told media crew at SPH, Tuesday (30/1/2024).

Furthermore, according to Ferry, the initial suspicion was that the workers forgot to close the gas cylinder tightly. So the gas spread and resulted in an explosion of 6 outdoor central AC units on the 1st floor.

“Maybe we forgot to close the welding gas tightly, which resulted in the explosion of 6 outdoor central AC units. So the explosion then spread to the 1st floor of the service room. That’s right in front of the elevator,” he explained.
