The Senate of the U.S. State of Tennessee, by majority republicanapproved a law which will allow teachers to public primary and secondary schools and school staff bring a weapon to school. A decision that comes a year after one shooting in a private primary school in Nashvilleby a 28-year-old, and which led to death of seven peopleincluding three children and three teachers.
The bill, presented last Tuesday, obtained the approval of the local Senate with 26 votes in favor and 5 againstdespite the protests from the families from the Covenant School in Nashville. The provision imposes some conditions to teachers: the possession of a weapons licenceand written permission of the preside and the completion of 40 hours of training basic information on school police.
“A gun it won’t do anything against all this. If what happened on March 27 had happened with a teacher armed with a gun trying to knock out the killer, my children would probably have died,” he said Beth Gebhard, a parent whose children attended the Nashville institution. “I am upset. My child is at risk with this law – declared the Democratic senator London Lamar -. This proposal is dangerous and teachers don’t want it. Nobody wants it.”
