Authorization for administration of Pfizer / BioNTech’s Covid vaccine has been extended to adolescents aged 12-15 in the United States. This was announced by the United States Drug Agency (Fda). The vaccine has so far been authorized as an emergency for people aged 16 and over. It can now be given to millions of extra teenagers, in the form of two injections containing the same doses as the adult vaccine.
“The first injections could thus begin as early as next Thursday,” said Peter Marks, an FDA official, at a press conference. Canada became the first country to authorize the vaccine for this age group on Wednesday. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is also studying this extension of the Pfizer vaccine for adolescents.
