Usa: “TikTok under investigation for child pornography material”

TikTok is under investigation by US government agencies for handling child pornography material. Investigating is the Department of Justice and Homeland Security, which has a privacy setting used by the app used by sexual predators in its sights. TikTok is the “perfect place for predators to meet and lure children,” explains the Department of Homeland Security. The survey, reports the Financial Times, highlights the difficulties of the platform to manage the flow of content generated by its one billion users.

“We have zero tolerance for child pornography material,” they state from TikTok. “When faced with any attempt to publish, obtain or distribute child pornography material, we remove content, ban accounts and devices, immediately report to the National Center for Missing or Exploited Children (NCMEC) and we interact with the police if necessary ».

New post censorship tools

Yesterday TikTok announced the launch of new censorship tools for posts, including the “I do not like” button for comments, a tool to simplify the work of monitoring by dedicated teams. The announcement was made by the company on the occasion of the publication of the periodic report on the application of the guidelines, according to which from October to last December TikTok removed 14.7% more posts relating to harassment and bullying, with zero views, that is, before they went viral among subscribers. There is also a 10.9% increase in censorship for hateful behavior and 16.2% for those on violent extremism.
