At a press conference held at 22:00 local time on the 24th, Uzbekistan’s Central Election Commission Chairman Nizam Khodzhaev told the media that as of 20:00 that day, voting for all polling points in Uzbekistan had ended. According to preliminary statistics, more than 16 million registered voters have voted, with a turnout rate of 80.8%. The statistics of overseas polling points will be announced in the afternoon of the 25th. According to the Uzbekistan Election Law, the voting rate must exceed 33%, and this election is legal and valid.

It is reported that a total of 5 candidates participated in this election, namely, the current president Mirziyoev nominated by the Liberal Democratic Party, Alisher Kadyrov nominated by the “National Revival” Democratic Party, and Maksuda nominated by the People’s Democratic Party. Varisova, Bakhrom Abdukharimov nominated by the “Just” Social Democratic Party, and Narzulo Oblomuradov nominated by the Ecological Party.

According to the Constitution of Uzbekistan, presidential elections are held every five years, and the president shall not be re-elected for more than one term. In the presidential election held in December 2016, Mirziyoyev, the candidate nominated by the Liberal Democratic Party, won.
