Vålerenga, Sports warning | Vålerenga got away with the scare – took the season’s first home win in the Obos league

VÅLERENGA-BRYNE 1–0

An own goal by Jacob Haahr Steffensen gave Vålerenga a long-awaited victory in the Obos league.

The Oslo team struggled through large parts of the match to gain control of the match, but Geir Bakke’s men eventually managed to take all three points. It is the capital club’s first home win in a series since they beat AaFK in the Eliteserien on 17 September last year.

– Not in a beautiful way, but it is a victory, summarized commentator Haakon Thon.

Despite the fact that Vålerenga was victorious again in the end, it could soon have looked different.

In the first half Bryne could score both once and twice. The Vålerenga team committed some incomprehensible violations and made up for mistakes that rarely go unpunished.

Only margins and a dose of luck ensured that the Oslo team kept a clean sheet after the first 45 minutes.

Already after five minutes, TV 2 expert Yaw Amankwah saw the danger signals at Vålerenga after a great chance for Andreas Dybevik.

– A shaken and affected Vålerenga team that doesn’t seem to be able to figure out how to be safe and stable on their own home ground, says Amankwah on TV 2’s “Målfest”.

Later in the half, both Eirik Saunes and Dybevik got new opportunities, but VIF once again got away with the scare. When Magnus Sjøeng took too long with the ball and was almost penalized for it, Amankwah reacted once again.

– Again, Vålerenga is its own worst enemy, he says.

The second half started like the first with a couple of huge Bryne chances which were saved by Sjøeng in VIF’s goal. About ten minutes into the half, however, Vålerenga scored after a roll-up on the left side. In the end it was Kamara who finished, before the ball went via Steffensen so that it was eventually credited as an own goal.

Just over a quarter of an hour before the end, Kamara had a huge chance to double the lead, but the finish along the ground was stopped by Anton Cajtoft.

The three points send Vålerenga up to 8th place. Bryne is in first place with one more point.
